Mrs. Samira Bawumia, the Second Lady, has donated 1,000 bags of cement to the Women’s Wing of the Islamic Mission Secretariat.

The cement donation on Saturday was to support speedy completion of a 100-bed capacity hospital project initiated by the Secretariat and under construction at Techiman Krobo, in the Techiman South Municipality of the Bono East Region.

The Second Lady pledged support for the project during the National Women’s Wing conference held at Techiman Krobo in September 2022.

The National President of the Secretariat, Sheikh Harun Ahmed Appau and Alhaji Musah Yusif Asante, the National Chairman together with other leaders received the cement at the Mission House of the Secretariat in Techiman.

Others who witnessed presentation of the cement were some members of the Techiman branch of the Secretariat, Imams, branch chairmen led by Umi Meimunah Abban and Hajia Mariam Nketia-Suleman, the leadership of the Women’s Wing.

The hospital project

The 100-bed capacity modern Islamic hospital is a general hospital meant for all, “but would be Islamically compliance”.

Meaning, “men specialist would be attending to men clients and women doctors and nurses would strictly be attending to women clients”.

Hajia Mariam Nketia-Suleman, the general secretary of the Women’s Wing explained in an interview with thefourlens.com news.

She said the hospital is one of the Secretariat’s visioned project to enhance easy access to quality health-care services delivery to people in the area and the region as part of support and contribution to national development.

Hajia Nketia-Suleman thanked the Office of the Second Lady for the support, saying, “these 1,000 bags cement donated to us, will help us to push the work ahead”.

Hajia Nketia-Suleman informed thefourlens.com news that construction of the hospital started in the year 2014 and work on it was at a snail-pace because of lack of financial and material support.

She said the project is being financed only from the yearly fundraising during the Secretariat’s annual conferences.

Hajia Nketia-Suleman therefore appealed to the general public, development partners,  philanthropist and organizations for support in any form to speed up works on the hospital.

The Women’s Wing

According to Hajia Nketia-Suleman, the Wing was formed about 28 years ago to champion the rights and dignity of women and the needy as well as vulnerable in the society.

She said the Wing further work with the Secretariat to promote unity and ensure peaceful co-existence between Muslims and other religious and faith based groups to create a harmonious environment to facilitate accelerated national growth.
