GNFS Cautioned Smokers Against Improper Cigarette-butt Littering To Avoid Fire Outbreaks.

The Ghana National Fire Service (G.N.F.S) has cautioned persons who smoke to ensure proper littering behavior towards butts of Cigarettes and other smoked substances to avoid fire outbreaks.

Divisional Officer Grade 3, Reverend Thomas Kofi Dzah, the Bono Regional Officer in charge of fire investigation said left overs from smoked substances were very dangerous and preventable fire sources.

He spoke to thefourlens.com  News in an interview regarding a fire outbreak that occured early hours of Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Notre Dame area, Fiapre, in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono region.

The fire completely razed a 4-bedroom self-contained house and burnt two people to death.

The bodies of Alex Antwi, 35 and a 22 year-old known as Adiza have been deposited at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital by the Police.

According to D.O.3 Rev. Dzah their investigation indicated the fire might have caused by cigarette butt.

Five children and other two people in the house during the incident were luckily rescued by Abine Adwa Richard, a brother to the Antwi.

Mrs. Jennifer Fosuaa, the mother of the deceased narrated in a further interview.

Mr. Evans Kusi Boadum, the Sunyani West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and his entourage visited and consoled the families.

The MCE cautioned the general public to ensure all electrical gadgets were unplug when going to bed or leaving the home to avoid preventable situation.
