The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) on Monday launched its 2023 mobile service week in Sunyani.

The SSNIT Mobile Service (SMS) is to extend services of the scheme to previously uncovered population and reach out to them at their doorsteps.

Staff of SSNIT would spread themselves out to reach the self employed workers at their workplaces to create awareness and explain the need for workers in the informal sector to sign onto SSNIT pension benefits.

The move would also deepen the penetration of pension within the informal economy, Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang, the Director General of SSNIT said.

The event with a float in the early hours of Monday was on the theme “Chose your tomorrow: Sign up for SEED from SSNIT today”.

It brought together Traditional rulers, government workers, youth groups, traders, market women and all other informal sector workers in Sunyani.

Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister encouraged artisans, petty traders and self-workers to sign up for the SSNIT pension benefits designed for them.

Mr. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, the Employment and Labour Relations Minister, and the Member of Parliament for Sunyani West Constituency told officers of SSNIT to get closer and speak to the people in their local dialect for them to understand the policy and its benefits, so they can willingly sign on.
