Let’s Prioritize TVET, STEM and Agricultural Education.

Teachers and Educational Workers of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) schools have been implored to endeavor to make Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as well as Agricultural Education a ‘Core Priority’ in the SDA schools.
Dr. Philip Oti-Agyen, the Dean of Students’ Affairs at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) pleaded with the SDA teachers when speaking at a Maiden Annual Conference of Adventist Teachers and Education Workers.
The one day Conference held in Sunyani was organized by the Bono and Ahafo SDA Education Unit and attended by all teachers and heads of the SDA schools, including SDA members teaching in other public and private schools as well as Conference and General Managers.
The event was on the theme: “Retooling The Adventist and Educational Worker for Instructional Leadership and Discipleship”.
It was to sensitized the teachers and educational workers on the critical need to inculcate the 21st Century teaching and education knowledge in their students to build their competencies and equip them for jobs creation after the academic journey.
Dr. Oti-Agyen, the guest speaker accentuated that the country concentrating on TVET, Agriculture and practical Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education would make the students capable of solving societal problems.
He stressed that focusing on practical TVET, STEM and Agricultural Education would help churn out competent, productive and independent citizens capable of solving the heightening unemployment problem in the country.
Speaking in an interview with thefourlens.com, Pastor Edward Opoku Antwi, the SDA Education Unit Manager for Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions said the conference was also to ensure there is serenity and cordial relationship between the education Managers, teachers and Pastors of the SDA to enhance social interaction.
The program would further help strengthen collaboration between the teachers, the church leadership and the school managers so that the teachers can share their problems and challenges with the church for solutions.
He encouraged the teachers to ensure morality and serve as role models and do their maximum best wherever they are to help nation building.
