Sunyani Astro-Turf 2023

The Member of Parliament for Sunyani, Mr. Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh on Monday cut sod for work to begin on Astro Turf  construction at Penkwase in Sunyani.

The soccer pitch construction is a six months project, expected to be ready by December this year to

enhance football professionalim in Sunyani and the Bono region.

It is a FIFA approved mini-stadium facilitated by the Sunyani Municipal Assembly and financed by Bui Power Authority.

The facility would have floodlights, changing room and at least 500 spectator stands including VIP stands.

It’s being constructed by Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited, a construction firm.

Mr. Simon Lamptey, the head of Operations for the firm stated that aside the construction professionals, all other workers on the project would be employ locally and be trained to take charge in maintenance of the facility.

Chiefs, Queens mothers and Officials from the Bono Regional Coordinating Council, the Sunyani Municipal Education Directorate, the Bono Regional Directorate of the National Sports Authority and the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive witnessed the ground breaking ceremony.

Others included the Sunyani Municipal Parents Association Executives, the headmistress of Penkwase High Street Junior High School, Assembly members, Sports personalities, Imams, Pastors football Club Administrators and current and retired footballers.

In an interview, Mr. Foster Kwame Opoku Boakye, the Bono Regional Director for the National Sports Authority (NSA) observed the Bono Region produces great footballers and many sports talents for Ghana, but sports infrastructure was a deficit in the Region, particularly Sunyani.

He was therefore optimistic the project would be a game changer in that regard as well as help reduce social vices because there is a befitting facility available for training.
