The Sunyani Municipal Education Directorate has inaugurated a maiden Parents Association (PA) to support educational delivery and progress in the Municipality.
The Association inaugurated and inducted into office last Thursday was made up of parents and guardians who’s children and wards are in public basic schools in Sunyani.
The ceremony under the theme: “Solidifying Parental Support for Educational Delivery in Sunyani” was attended by Head teachers, teachers, the clergy, traditional authorities, parents, education Unit Managers, Circuit Supervisors, and all educational workers in Sunyani.
In all, 58 parents elected to hold the executive positions at the Circuit and Municipal Levels took oath of office and oath of secrecy.
They are to support teaching and learning both at home and school for the development of public basic schools in Sunyani from the local, Circuit and Municipal Levels.
They are also to raise moral, social and educational standards at home, because parents are the major stakeholders in education, Mr. Mark Godfred Domah, the Sunyani Municipal Education Director tasked them.
Obrempong Prof. Kyem-Amponsah II, the Vice Chancellor of the Ghana Telecommunication Technology University, who is the guest speaker charged the Association to support the Education Directorate to ensure constant supervision and monitoring for discipline and academic excellence in the public schools.
In his response, the chairman of the Association, Mr. Peter Anum said “government has done much by providing infrastructure and giving us qualified teachers and paying them to teach in our basic schools”.
Therefore, “we parents also needed to support in other ways by helping to give education the needed support in divers ways”.
