Former High Commissioner to Nigeria prioritises Skills training & TVET for economic transformation

A former Ambassador to Libya in the John Agyekum Kufuor’s Administration, H.E George Kumi is advocating for national priority for handicraft skills training as well as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as the way and means to strengthen Ghana’s economy.

He noted, making TVET, handicraft works and innovation training institutions easily accessible and attractive to the Ghanaian child remains the surest way for easy economic transformation and accelerated sustainable development of the country.

H.E George Kumi, also a former High Commissioner to Nigeria said this when he visited the Sunyani Youth Development Association (SYDA) Skills Training Centre in Sunyani on Thursday.

He motivated trainees, trainers and management of the Training Centre and encouraged them to be relentless in their endeavors, saying “you people have taken the right step and direction in life”.

H.E George Kumi advised young girls and boys, particularly those in Sunyani, the Bono region and environs to take advantage of the available opportunities to transform their livelihoods as well as their communities.

He further entreated parents and guardians to encourage their wards and children to develop much interest in TVET and skills training initiatives for self employment and abundant job opportunities for all in the nearest future.

H.E George Kumi in that regard pleaded with the government to make the TVET, Skills Training Institutions a top priority and empower them , provide them with the needed and appropriate training tools and materials to impact more youth so as to ease the unemployment burden and consequently reduce crime rates in the country.
