A total of 630 persons with various visual problems have been screened for their sight restoration in the 2023 Suncity Medical Outreach Exercise.
The eye screening exercise was from Monday, 6 to Friday, 10 February at the Kwatire Polyclinic in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono region.
It was organized by the Suncity Group of Companies (Suncity Radio and Suncity Imperial Lodge) based in Sunyani, in partnership with Friends’ Eye Centre in Kumasi, Mansusu Investment Ltd and United for Sight in the United States of America.
It aimed at ensuring adequate health care services provision for people in Sunyani and Sunyani West Municipalities and the Bono region at large.
The five-days free exercise was under the theme: “Operation Restore Your Sight”.
Numbers recorded were 120, 150, 100, 130 and 130 from Monday to Friday respectively.
The exercise saw beneficiaries from cross border regions such as Ashanti, Bono East and Ahafo regions.
Speaking to thefourlens.com in an interview, some said they were from Nkoranza, Bechem and Kumasi.
Saying, “my friend informed me on phone call and I took the opportunity to get my sight restored”.
The patients were given free medications and highly subsidized sight glasses while some were given prescriped medicines to buy at the pharmacy based on their conditions detected.
A team of eye specialists lead by Dr. Eldrick Adu-Acquah and Dr. Ken Amoateng from Friends Eye Centre conducted the exercise.
Dr. Ken Amoateng told thefourlens.com that patients whose condition required surgeries have been booked and would be given dates for free surgeries.
