Ahafo region has 7,038 people living with HIV – Ghana AIDS Commission

A total of 7,038 people in the Ahafo region are living with HIV, the Ghana AIDS Commission’s data available to thefourlens.com has disclosed.

The Asutifi South Municipality is leading all the sixth Districts and Municipalities of the Ahafo region with a total of1,960 people living with the HIV and has 4.2 per cent prevalence of the virus, with 86 new infections cases. 

This is according to the Commission’s 2020 data report gathered in 2021.

The data said the Asunafo North Municipality, with Goaso as the capital and doubles as the regional capital is the second highest with 70 new infection cases with 1.49 per cent prevalence and a total of 1,545 people living with the HIV virus.

According to the data, the Tano North Municipality is third in the Ahafo region with 49 new infection cases of the HIV virus and 1.80 per cent prevalence with 1,167 people living with the HIV in that area.

The fourth position, the data said is Tano South Municipality with 50 new infections of the virus, 1.77 per cent prevalence and a total of 1,043 HIV population.

The last but one District is the Asunafo South District with 42 new cases of the virus, 1.44 per cent prevalence and 899 population of the HIV, the data said.

The Asutifi North District recorded 20 new cases as the District with least HIV cases in the year under review to put it population cumulative at 424 with 0.83 per cent prevalence of the virus.

Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim Bambilla, the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions Technical Coordinator of the Commission disclosed this in an interview with thefourlens.com.
