Gays have 18% HIV Prevalence –  Ghana AIDS Commission

HIV prevalence among gays’ thus men who have sex with men (MSM) is 18 per cent, the Ghana AIDS Commission has revealed.

Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim Bambilla, the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions Technical Coordinator of the Commission disclosed this to thefourlens.com in an interview.

He again revealed that Female Sex Workers (FSWs) also have 4.5 per cent HIV prevalence nationwide and stated  the MSM and FSWs are amongst the fast spreading agents of the virus.

This is from the Commission’s 2020 data report gathered in 2021, he indicated.

According to Mr. Bambilla, elaborate celebration of funerals and festivals were the major factors contributing to the increasing spread of the HIV virus.

He therefore urged the public to take caution during this Christmas festive season.
