Cellphones For Educational Purposes – Education Minister

Madam Gifty Twum Ampofo, the Deputy Minister for Education has advised school children, particularly girls to use their cellphones for the purposes of educational.

She said the cellphones were technologically designed to serve computer and multi-purpose including research and academic works, therefore implored children to desist from using the phones for verbal assaults and other unpleasant activities on social media.

Mad. Twum Ampofo gave the advice on Saturday at the grand durbar of a weeklong maiden education festival at Fiapre in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono region.

The education festival by Obrempong Professor Kyem-Amponsah II was the 5th Anniversary of his enstoolment as Chief of the area.

The event was also to launch education endowment fund to improve education in Fiapre for the development of the Bono region and Ghana at large.

The educational improvement move aimed at reducing lawlessness, robbery and teenage  pregnancy in the region.

Mad. Twum Ampofo said  government is committed to quality education in Ghana, including Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, therefore would build STEM education campus including laboratory, hostel and other facilities at Fiapre.

She said the project cost £175 million from the Standard Chatted Bank of the United Kingdom.

In his address, Obrempong Prof. Kyem-Amponsah II said 86 young people in the area have so far been enrolled in various Universities in the country as beneficiaries of his educational improvement endeavors, including 36 on full scholarship.

Mr. Ignatius Baffour Awuah, the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations and Member of Parliament for the Sunyani West Municipality supported the education endowment fund with GHc100,000.00 seed money.
